The Moon and Sixpence is a Biographical novel written by William Somerset Maugham, first published in 1919. Strickland is a well settle stockbroker in London in 19 century. He leaves his children and wife in pairs. The narrator ask  Mrs Strickland to go Paris and contact with her husband. Her husband is living in illness and hunger. He is supported by hackneyed Dutch painter. Dirk Stroeve is a old friend of narrator. The book title is taken from Of Human Bondage

The story is adapted in a stage play in 1925 at New York Theater, Play is written by written by Albert Lewin. stars in this play is  George Sanders as Charles Strickland. Another adaption is American TV in 1959, some supported role with  Laurence Olivier, Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy.

William Somerset Maugham was a British playwright, novelist and short story writer. He was among the most popular writers of his era, Born 25 January 1874 died 16 December 1965. His some best books are Of Human Bondage, The Moon and Sixpence, Cakes and Ale and The Razor’s Edge. Robert Ormond Maugham the father of William Somerset Maugham is a lawyer. Got education St Thomas’s Hospital Medical School and King’s College London.
