The novel sold  250,000 copies all over the world and it is translated almost major languages of the world. Holden Caulfield is the protagonist of the novel and become successful with this novel in teen ages. Novel disuss the major problems of society like innocence, identity, belonging and loss.

About Story

Story of a teenager boy who Holden Caulfield who create some problems and turbulent some days before Christmas vacation. Holden left his school and spend some days on the roads of New York city. He have some mental problems. Holden note the attitude of others peoples. Holden like to play Pencey football with his friends. Holden decide to go New York he take a train and move to New York where his family is living.

There he stay at the derelict Edmont Hotel where he spend most of his life time. Holden spend two days in New York these two days he drunk and feel loneliness, There he meet with a old friend Carl Luce and one of his girlfriend name Sally Hayes. Holden the go to his parents house where his sister kids are living. He meet them and feel better and he go to the house of his English teacher Mr. Antolini. He tell his little sister that he want to move west.

Major Characters

Holden Caulfield: Main character of the novel, A syko person who lived in drunk and loneliness mysterious character.

Mr. Spencer: Teacher of Holden at Pencey Prep. When Holden visit her home she was ill and feeling cold.

Robert Ackley: Neighbor of Holden

About J. D. Salinger

The  American writer Jerome David Salinger is born in New York City in 1 January 1919. First work is published in 1965. He raised in  Manhattan and he start writing in the time of secondary and writes short stories. The stories are published in several magazines.  And got success after his novel was published The Catcher in the Rye. Salinger’s short story book Nine Stories was published in 1953, others novels are Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction (1963) and Franny and Zooey (1961).
