Some of his best movies are A Woman of Paris (1923), The Kid (1921), The Gold Rush (1925), The Circus (1928), Modern Times (1936), City Lights (1931) and The Great Dictator (1940). He was born on 16 April 1889 in London, England and died on 25 December 1977 in Switzerland. There is no official record of his birth. But he said that he was born in East Street, Walworth, in South London. His father and mother are both entertainers at  the music hall.
